The role will also drive process improvement, automation and technology-enabled delivery across Group Tax and Partner Finance. It is suited to a well-rounded tax professional from a top-tier or leading regional firm, seeking a varied in-house role with senior stakeholder exposure.

You’ll bring strong technical knowledge together with a practical and commercial approach, enabling you to translate complex tax requirements into clear advice for stakeholders across the firm

Key Responsibilities as Tax Manager

  • Manage a broad range of direct and indirect tax compliance requirements, ensuring obligations are delivered accurately and within required timescales.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of UK income tax computations and corporation tax returns.
  • Provide practical tax planning and advisory support, identifying risks, implications and opportunities for the firm.
  • Own and enhance partner tax reserving processes, calculations and payment cycles.
  • Provide clear information to partners and Finance stakeholders on tax reserves, cash flow and payment requirements.
  • Support partner tax compliance with profit sourcing and allocation information
  • Take responsibility for matters relating to IR35 and the off-payroll working rules, supporting employment status assessments and advising on the tax treatment of contractor engagements.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of the firm’s annual PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) to HMRC, including the calculation and coordination of associated liabilities and payments.
  • Work closely with Payroll and Benefits colleagues on employment tax matters and provide technical guidance where required.
  • Support the management of partner tax matters, providing appropriate technical and operational tax support.
  • Lead and coordinate tax audits and enquiries, liaising with HMRC, overseas tax authorities and external advisers as appropriate.
  • Monitor changes to UK and assess the potential implications for the firm.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline tax processes, systems and controls, helping us maintain effective and proportionate tax governance.
  • Support, coach and develop junior colleagues, sharing technical knowledge and encouraging continuous development.
  • Build strong relationships across Finance and the wider firm, providing clear and pragmatic advice to stakeholders at all levels.

Skills and Experience

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical tax knowledge with commercial awareness and the confidence to build relationships across an international organisation.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong knowledge of UK tax legislation and relevant Accounting Standards.
  • Experience across direct, indirect and employment taxes.
  • Practical knowledge of IR35 and off-payroll working requirements
  • Experience preparing and managing PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSAs) and the associated HMRC reporting and payment requirements.
  • Experience gained within an accounting, legal or wider professional services environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legislation and turn it into practical, commercially focused advice.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, with the ability to identify opportunities to strengthen processes, controls and ways of working.

 Essential

  • Qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant.
  • Strong UK tax knowledge gained within a professional services, accountancy, legal or similarly complex corporate environment.
  • Experience across direct and indirect tax, including working with owner-managed businesses (OMBs), small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and partnerships.
  • Good working knowledge of IR35/off-payroll working requirements.
