Role and key responsibilities
We are recruiting for a full time position in Eversheds Sutherland’s  Pro Bono team, based in the UK. The firm has an impactful pro bono practice and this role will help develop and strengthen our pro bono program across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
 
This is a unique opportunity for an excellent lawyer who is passionate about access to justice and human rights. We are looking for an experienced lawyer who is enthusiastic, organised, proactive and innovative, with excellent project management skills.  Key responsibilities will be:

 

  • Developing and leading cross-office teams on local, national and international pro bono projects 
  • Strengthening existing NGO client relationships and building strategic new ones 
  • Identifying and implementing new pro bono partnerships and projects across EMEA 
  • Reviewing and assessing new pro bono requests and onboarding clients 
  • Ensuring we provide an excellent service to all our pro bono clients
  • Following risk and compliance procedures and ensuring adequate supervision for pro bono work
  • Maintaining colleague engagement and thinking creatively about increasing participation 
  • Developing and supporting our pro bono volunteers through training, feedback and resources 
  • Supporting pro bono champions across our offices 
  • Developing opportunities to partner with fee-earning clients 
  • Drafting pro bono communications including reports, newsletters, award entries and firm news
  • Assisting with stats and other reporting, internally and externally
  • Collating impact reports and data in relation to pro bono work and projects
  • Preparing and delivering internal and external presentations on pro bono
  • Contributing to ESI’s pro bono strategy
  • Attending conferences and trainings to continue your development 
  • Undertaking pro bono casework


Skills and experience

  • Qualified lawyer with 3+ years PQE 
  • Experience working in a pro bono team (preferable but not essential)
  • Substantial experience of volunteering on pro bono cases 
  • Experience working in a collaborative team 
  • Strong people management skills 
  • Strong project management skills (including use of technology)
  • Experience interacting with clients and lawyers 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Efficient time and workload management skills 
  • Experience of working with vulnerable clients 
  • Passionate about access to justice and social impact 
  • Resilient and able to work under pressure 
  • Ability to anticipate, identify and address risks 
  • Able to inspire and engage colleagues at all levels
