About the role
An instrumental partner‑facing role responsible for the delivery and oversight of partner /partnership tax and employment tax matters within a professional services environment, alongside leading tax automation, process optimisation, and operational efficiency initiatives.
The role combines deep technical expertise, senior stakeholder management with a clear mandate to enhance governance and technology‑enabled delivery across Tax and Partner Finance.
Key responsibilities
UK/International Tax Compliance & Advisory (40%)
Delivery and oversight of core tax activities across the partner population and certain allocated overseas territories.
- Support UK partner tax return compliance including internationally mobile and non‑UK resident partners.
- Own and enhance UK partner tax reserving processes and payment cycles.
- International compliance & advisory for allocated territories: Senior International Partner payroll and compliance, including overseas obligations (e.g. partnership returns, TP local files, CbCR notifications).
Managing relationships with external advisors and local finance teams globally
Overseeing and developing transfer pricing policies and documentation
Advising on the tax implications of:

- Cross-border transactions
- Business restructurings
- M&A activity and integration
- Supporting tax audits and enquiries, working closely with advisors and tax authorities
- Providing commercial tax input into wider business and finance decisions

- Partnership profit allocations, foreign income, and treaty positions, Residence / split‑year treatment and remote working implications
- Manage tax implications of partner lifecycle events (joiners and retirees).
- Provide subject matter expertise and oversight on employment tax matters.
- Lead PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) compliance and advisory
- Act as SME on: Employment tax matters, Minimum wage considerations, Termination payments, Expatriate tax and mobility issues, IR35 advisory
- Ensure effective coordination with HR, Payroll, Finance, and external advisers
HMRC/tax authorities Enquiries & Risk Management
- Technical input into HMRC enquiries and manage technical responses and stakeholder engagement.
- Identify and escalate tax, financial, and reputational risks at partner and firm level.
Automation, Efficiency & Transformation (50%)
Lead the transformation of tax and partner finance processes through technology and automation.
- Own and deliver operational efficiency strategy across Tax and Partner Finance.
- Lead key automation initiatives under the 3‑year transformation roadmap, including: UK Partnership returns, PSA processes, Profit allocation for partner tax returns.
- Review and redesign manual processes across the team, ensuring robust documentation and controls are in place.
- Build scalable solutions to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and partner experience
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to:
Simplify and standardise processes
Implement AI‑enabled solutions and automation tools
Improve data quality, reporting, and auditability
Senior Stakeholder Management
- Act as a trusted adviser to partners, Finance leadership, and ExCo.
- Collaborate across Tax, Partner Finance, HR, Payroll, IT, and external advisers.
- Communicate complex tax matters clearly, focusing on:
Effective tax rates
Tax cashflow implications
Risk exposure
Skills & qualifications
Essential
- CTA / ACA / ACCA qualified
- Strong UK individual tax experience in a partnership environment
- Proven experience in automation, process improvement, or transformation
- Employment tax working knowledge
- Leadership and stakeholder management experience
Desirable
- Law firm / professional services background
- Experience with internationally mobile partners
- Exposure to tax technology / AI tools / data analytics
