Role and key responsibilities

The main purpose of this appointment is complete monthly internal and external MI reports within the prescribed timeline. The role with also provide financial analysis and data gathering support to the managers in the Clients & Sectors and Pricing teams on a more ad hoc basis once the monthly reports are completed. The reports and analysis generated will be delivered to the firms most senior stakeholders and clients so a keen eye for detail is required. The ability to work at a fast pace and strong organisational skills are therefore imperative, to ensure accuracy and meet tight reporting deadlines.

 

As part of the wider finance team you will be responsible for but not limited to: 

 

  • Complete scheduled monthly reports within timescales agreed to a high level of accuracy. This will include both internal reports as well as contractually mandated external data to be shared with clients using Microsoft Excel and internal data cube software.
  • Analytical support and data gathering for the Commercial Finance Managers within the clients and sectors team and the wider Pricing team.  
  • Requesting and processing administrative changes to the firm’s database that are sent through from Commercial Finance Managers and wider Pricing team.
  • Prepare the firm’s monthly rebate accruals and post the associated journal to ensure monies are accounted for properly and accurately.
  • Work with the pricing team to provide client information they require by utilising  manual/automated reporting systems.
  • Respond to questions and provide ad-hoc financial analysis when required to colleagues outside of the team.  This could be for Partners or marketing teams etc.
  • Ensure all role-based training assigned to you is completed within timescales.

 

Skills and experience

  • Excel knowledge including basic formulae, formatting and basic charts is essential.
  • Close attention to detail is essential.
  • This role requires the need to be able to multi-task adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work calmly to tight time deadlines and keep many simultaneous requests well organised.
  • Good team player with the desire to support the other members within the team.
  • Ability to juggle incoming ad hoc requests for client and sector related information. 
  • Successful candidate will be organised, focused and keen to learn. 
  • A degree or equivalent qualification (2:1 or above) would be advantageous but not required. More importantly the candidate would have a highly disciplined, organised and logical approach to their work. 
  • Advanced Excel knowledge including pivot tables, lookups and problem-solving formulas would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of cube-based reporting systems advantageous although not necessary.
  • Knowledge of SAP or similar law firm practice management system advantageous although not necessary.
  • Experience of running reports from Microsoft Power BI would be advantageous although not necessary.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to recognise relevant details within written requests from several different stakeholders.
  • A reliable, enthusiastic and a ‘can do’ approach.
  • A collaborative style and able to build strong working relationships within Finance. and across the business.
