Our team
We are an international Banking & Finance Practice Group with an enviable list of clients and transactions to our name. We regularly advise high profile clients, consisting of UK and global financial institutions, private equity houses, funds and corporates on complex domestic and cross-border transactions and are able to utilise our strong domestic and international network of specialists.
The breadth and quality of work that we undertake sets us apart from many of our competitors. On the majority of transactions, we act opposite Magic Circle and large U.S. firms. Many of our Partners and Associates have joined the team from Magic Circle, US and similar high quality finance practices, and work alongside Associates and Partners who have been with the firm from the early stages of their careers.
Our Banking & Finance Practice Group covers corporate / leverage finance, real estate finance, Energy & Infrastructure Finance and debt capital markets. We are looking to build out our practice and have ambitious plans for growth.
Our PSL team supports the Banking & Finance practice and we are looking for someone to join our team of Finance PSLs at a Senior Associate level with a minimum of 4PQE.
Role and key responsibilities
Whilst this role is primarily to support the UK Finance team, the team offers strategic assistance to other offices in the global network in all areas of knowledge for the team. Everything we do is bedded in technology and we work very closely with our team of Legal technologists, to deliver technical excellence in the following areas:
• Drafting/updating/managing/improving the content of team precedents;
• Updating and writing team guidance notes and toolkits;
• Researching and writing internal and client facing bulletins, briefings and horizon scanning reports;
• Collating current awareness and sector hot topics, with recourse to market source providers; and
• Leading on sector critical matters with the support of senior team partners and senior assistants;
• Organising team training, including writing/updating training materials, presenting training (both face to face and online), as well as contributing to the very successful annual NQ induction course;
• Managing the team know-how bank with the support of PSL team assistants;
• Supporting key clients with training and knowledge services;
• Liaising with the Eversheds Sutherland Legal Technology Group in respect of legal technology developments for the use of the finance team, including testing new products and tools both generic and product-based;
• Supporting the UK Finance team on ad hoc queries; and
• Working on process improvement initiatives (firm wide and team wide).
The successful candidate will be focused on support across our Finance team and have the opportunity to work with our existing senior Finance PSLs. Our Finance PSLs work closely together and many of the projects noted above are run on a joint basis.
In addition our finance PSLs work with PSLs in the wider Corporate Finance and Commercial Advisory Groups, and that wider team of PSLs works closely as a team, sharing experiences and best practice and delivering projects across both groups. Our Finance PSLs have the support of senior partners in the UK Finance team and this role would also be supported by a team of PSL support assistants.
Skills and experience
Our preferred candidate will:
- Have at least 4 years post qualification experience in banking law, with a focus on transactional work, ideally including a deeper interest in one of the following specialist areas: Corporate Debt/Leveraged finance, Structured finance or Energy & Infrastructure finance
- Show a good knowledge of the legal technology tools available in the market, have had experience in using some of them, and be open to working with new tools as they develop

- Have a strong interest in the black letter law, excellent technical skills and an eye for detail.
