The Team
Our Corporate lawyers advise a full spectrum of corporations and institutions of all sizes, both public and private, on mergers and acquisitions, disposals, corporate finance, private equity investments, indirect real estate and energy related transactions both domestically and cross-border.
The Corporate team has a fantastic client base which will provide a suitable candidate the opportunity to gain experience in a broad range of matters. There are numerous opportunities to participate in client secondments and also placements in to other offices within the firm both domestically and internationally.
We are looking for someone to join our team of corporate PSLs at either a Senior Associate or Principal Associate level with a minimum of 5PQE in Corporate law.
Role and key responsibilities
Whilst this role is primarily to support the UK corporate team, the team offers strategic assistance to other offices in the global network in all areas of knowledge for the team. Everything we do is bedded in technology and we work very closely with our team of Legal technologists, to deliver technical excellence in the following areas:
• Drafting/updating/managing/improving the content of team precedents;
• Updating and writing team guidance notes and toolkits;
• Researching and writing internal and client facing bulletins, briefings and horizon scanning reports;
• Collating current awareness and sector hot topics, with recourse to market source providers, and
• Leading on sector critical matters with the support of senior team partners and senior assistants;
• Organising team training, including writing/updating training materials, presenting training (both face to face and online), as well as contributing to the very successful annual NQ induction course;
• Managing the team knowhow bank with the support of PSL team assistants;
• Supporting key clients with training and knowledge services;
• Liaising with the Eversheds Sutherland Legal Technology Group in respect of legal technology developments for the use of the corporate team, including testing new products and tools both generic and product based; and
• Supporting the UK corporate team on ad hoc queries; and work process improvement initiatives (firm wide and team wide).
The successful candidate will be focused on support for our well established private Corporate M&A team. Our corporate PSLs work closely together and many of the projects noted above are run on a joint basis.
In addition our corporate PSLs work with PSLs in the wider Corporate Finance and Commercial Advisory Groups, and that wider team of PSLs works closely as a team, sharing experiences and best practice and delivering projects across both groups. Our corporate PSLs have the support of a senior partner in the UK corporate team and this role would also be supported by a team of PSL support assistants.
Skills and experience
Our preferred candidate will:
- Have at least 5 years post qualification experience in corporate law, with a focus on International M&A work, ideally including international reorganisations and solvent restructuring
- Experience as a PSL is helpful, but is not a requirement of this role
- Show a good knowledge of the legal technology tools available in the market, have had experience in using some of them, and be open to working with new tools as they develop
- Be a team player and a self-starter with a wide corporate perspective and a strong desire to be creative, do things differently and better with the support of the corporate team.
- Have a strong interest in the black letter law, excellent technical skills and an eye for detail.
- Be confident in business and legal written and spoken English.
- We are open to both candidates wishing to work full time, or part time, working flexibly with a minimum of 0.7FTE
