Location: Belgium, BE

Company: Eversheds Sutherland

We are Eversheds Sutherland, a global law firm, with more than 5,000 people across over 30 countries. We’re full-service with deep niche and sector experience. Whatever challenge, wherever in the world, we’re equipped and ready to meet it. We live our values, we’re purposeful and purpose-led. So although the world is fast-moving and rapidly changing, we see it as a place where everyone can thrive. We’re ambitious for our clients, our communities – and for you. Whether you’re starting out on your career or well established, whether you’re a lawyer or in business services. If you’re looking for what’s next, we are too.

Our team

The Brussels office is part of Eversheds Sutherland’s wider Benelux offering, which also includes our teams in Luxembourg and the Netherlands. As a fast-growing and ambitious practice, the Benelux team advises clients on both domestic and international matters, working closely with colleagues across the global Eversheds Sutherland network.

Our lawyers in the Benelux are active in a range of key practice areas, including M&A, Financial Services, Banking & Finance, Tax, Corporate Notarial Services, Litigation, Real Estate & Planning, Employment & Pensions and Data, Privacy & Technology. Together, we serve clients across sectors such as industrials, TMT, energy, financial institutions, and life sciences.

Due to our continued growth, we are recruiting an Associate or Senior Associate (4–6 years of experience) to join our Corporate team in Brussels.

This is a great opportunity to support two of our Partners – Benjamin Haberkorn, the new Head of Corporate in Belgium, and Kristof Slootmans, who recently joined the team. Benjamin brings over 20 years of experience advising on cross-border M&A, private equity, and corporate restructurings. Kristof focuses on private and public M&A, joint ventures, and reorganisations, and is known for his pragmatic, deal-driven approach.

Role and key responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with Benjamin and Kristof, as well as two Associates within the team. Under the new leadership of Benjamin, the team has undergone significant transformation and is focused on delivering high-quality transactional work for a strong roster of top level and international clients.

You will be involved in a broad range of corporate transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions and corporate reorganisations and restructurings, often across multiple jurisdictions.

The role offers genuine autonomy, high levels of responsibility, and direct client contact from day one. You will engage with top-tier, multinational clients and regularly collaborate with lawyers across Eversheds Sutherland’s international network. This is a unique opportunity to work on top-quality transactions in a supportive and entrepreneurial setting.

Skills and experience

We are looking for a dynamic, technically strong and commercially minded lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced, international environment:
• 4–6 years of relevant post-qualification experience in corporate transactional work at a leading international or well-regarded local law firm.
• Fluency in English and French (French as mother tongue is preferred); Dutch is a plus.
• Strong drafting skills and ability to manage transactions with limited supervision.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
• A collaborative attitude and eagerness to contribute to a newly restructured, ambitious team.

What’s in it for you?

At Eversheds Sutherland, we provide benefits focused on looking after you: your development, your performance, your financial future and your health, as well as providing the opportunity to make a contribution to the world.

• Excellent progression opportunities due to our dynamic growth in a vibrant team.
• Working for exciting and varied international clients from the outset.
• Regular training and further development in our international offices.
• Opportunities to work with colleagues across the world, with the possibility of undertaking a secondment to one of our international offices.
• Last but not least: a culture that promotes cooperation, diversity and training!

Diversity & Inclusion

At Eversheds Sutherland, “Inclusive” is a core business value. We bring together different skillsets, global mindsets and approaches. We foster diversity of thought and the freedom to put ideas into action. We have an inherent respect for the individual. We have a strong belief in collaboration and teamwork. Sharing ideas, asking questions, solving challenges and meeting our clients’ goals: together.

We want all our people to thrive at work and reach their full potential and we work hard to continue to build a diverse and inclusive culture, monitor and report on our progress and impact, and develop our approach. This is reflected in our policies, systems and processes, and in our work with diversity membership organisations.

Many of our people work flexibly in some way and we are open to considering how we can accommodate flexible working arrangements alongside role requirements. If this is important to you, please talk to us about it during the recruitment process.

We want you to perform at your best during our recruitment process. If there is any adjustment or support you need, please contact us so we can discuss how we can best assist you.
