Our team

Our CC&I team operates globally.  We have one of the largest and most experienced financial crime compliance practices, with specialist lawyers and contentious regulatory specialists across the UK, US, EU, the Middle East and Asia.  We advise clients on a broad range of legal, regulatory and compliance matters, with particular expertise in financial sanctions, anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and corruption, and fraud. We are ranked Band 1 in Chambers UK-wide for sanctions, reflecting our market-leading reputation and depth of expertise in this complex and evolving area.

The team works closely with financial institutions and corporates within a range of sectors, including aviation, consumer, insurance, defence, oil and gas, TMT and education.  We provide strategic advice on legal and regulatory obligations, as well as conduct large scale investigations and remediation projects. We have strong industry and government relationships and support clients in navigating high-stakes enforcement and compliance challenges.

Role and key responsibilities

We are looking for a Principal Associate or Senior Associate to join our CC&I team in any of our UK offices. The role will include all aspects of the work undertaken in the team, but with a particular focus on financial sanctions.  This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of sanctions advisory and investigation work, contributing to high-profile matters and helping shape best practice in our team.

Typically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising financial institutions and corporate clients on UK and international sanctions regimes, anti-money laundering laws, and anti-bribery and corruption regimes.  You will work closely with international colleagues to deliver commercial advice to clients operating in global markets
  • Conducting complex investigations (including cross border) and managing remediation projects
  • Supporting clients in interactions with regulators
  • Contributing to business development and thought leadership in the CC&I space
  • Mentoring junior team members and supporting team growth

Skills and experience

We are looking for:

  • Ideally 5+ PQE, although candidates with less experience but deep sanctions expertise will be considered
  • Strong track record in advising on sanctions related matters
  • Experience dealing with the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, the Financial Conduct Authority and other regulators
  • Experience in conducting and managing complex sanctions or anti-money laundering related investigations
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams and jurisdictions
  • Experience of working in-house in welcomed
